Google Retires the Adsense Referrals Program, to Make Way for GAN

June 30th, 2008

Expectedly, now that Google has relaunched DoubleClick’s Performics ad affiliate network as the new Google Affiliate Network, there’s no point in maintaining the Adsense Referrals Program anymore. So,  Google Adsense has just sent an official email to (I suppose) all Adsense members informing us that Google is retiring the Adsense Referrals Program starting the last week of August. (more…)

Google Launches Google Affiliate Network

June 30th, 2008

When Google acquired DoubleClick, the company has brought with it its affiliate ad network program called Performics. But Google never did something to push Performics as one of its advertising program, until now. Google has renamed Performics as the Google Affiliate Network, and Amazon with its popular Affiliate Marketing Network called Amazon Associates have something to worry about.

Keyword Research : Where to Start?

June 30th, 2008

Keyword research is the first thing you do when planning a website. You do it before thinking over the site architecture and creating the content. Keyword research is the what you do to estimate your competition and create a promotion strategy.

Previously, I have talked about the keyword research tools and ways to organize your keyword list. But where to start? How to find the correct core terms that you will then explore and expand? What you can do first:

  1. Make a list of most essential aspects of your business;
  2. Think what your visitors or customers would be most interested to see;
  3. Learn what your competitors use (but don’t copy their strategy - sort out only most essential and useful terms);
  4. Explore your niche essential vocabulary - check out dictionaries and glossaries.

While the first three are more or less clear, number 4 needs further information, I guess. I have a collection of my favorite sources I check regularly to get help with keyword research and content creation. (more…)

SEO Effectiveness: Spend Your Time Wisely

June 30th, 2008

SEOs keep discussing the effectiveness of old traditional techniques like reciprocal links and directory submission. Naturally, they cannot so easily be forgiven because they remain the easiest free way to gain backlinks with the keyword-targeted anchor text. I myself turned to the topic several times and got a heated discussion in response.

However what is wrong about discussing the real effectiveness of the traditional SEO techniques is that we often forget about time factor. With most of these techniques the minor effect they might have fades compared to the amount of time you have to spend on them.

SEO Effectiveness

By spending your time wisely, you can both achieve similar (and higher) effectiveness and accomplish other no less useful tasks. (more…)

June 30th, 2008

Billionaire turned blogger Carl Icahn explains why he has not posted anything about his proxy battle against Yahoo in his newly established personal blog.
